Rail
Rolling-stock components and spares.
How we support rail
Rail spares are held for years against a maintenance cycle, often in depots and yards open to the weather. Bogies, brake gear, couplers, traction components and electrical assemblies wait in storage where a corroded part means a unit out of service and a scramble for a replacement. We supply the wrapping, barrier packaging and desiccants that keep rolling-stock spares fit to fit.
The corrosion problem
Long dwell times are the difficulty. A component that sits for a year or more in a damp depot accumulates surface corrosion on exactly the machined faces and threads that have to mate cleanly on assembly. Bare and part-machined steel suffers first, and the damage is usually found only when the part is needed.
Where we work in this sector
- Bogie and running gear
- Frames, springs and machined components held long-term.
- Brake and coupler assemblies
- Mechanisms with fine tolerances and mixed metals.
- Traction and driveline
- Motors, gearboxes and shafts stored as exchange units.
- Electrical and control gear
- Panels and instrumentation where damp reaches the enclosure.
What we usually recommend
- VCI Films & Wraps
Cut-to-size wrapping and bags for individual components and spares.
- VCI Devices, Emitters & Powders
Vapour protection for enclosed assemblies and control gear.
- Desiccants & Moisture Control
Sized for crates and containers in an outdoor depot.
